Mary Ellen (Scognamiglio) Quagliero, age 80, died on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ.  Mary Ellen was born January 21, 1936 in Paterson, NJ, the daughter of Romualdo Scognamiglio and Mary Pasquariello.  She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph and two sisters, Adelaide and Rose.  Mary Ellen is survived by a sister, Lillian and a brother Raymond.  She is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

After her marriage to her husband Joseph, on October 18, 1958, Mary Ellen resided in Oakland, NJ for many years and then relocated to Barnegat, NJ for the last eleven years.

She was a bookkeeper, legal secretary and secretary for the Assistant Superintendent with the Paterson School District.  She was a member of the O.C.R.E.A. and the Italian-American Club of Lacey.

She loved her Roman Catholic Church and faith, and was a devoted parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament, Franklin Lakes for many years.  She enjoyed sharing her faith as a lector of the church by reading scriptures and teaching CCD.  She continued her sharing of the faith when she moved to Barnegat and became a parishioner of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Forked River. 

Mary Ellen was also the adopted mother, through PIME Missionaries, of Mary and Maung Moe Sein of Burma.  She enjoyed traveling and visiting many countries.

Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm and Friday 9:30 am – 10:30 am at Layton’s Home For Funerals, 250 W. Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Friday at the Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River.

Burial will be Saturday 10 am at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes, NJ.
