Rudolph Matthias Manz, Sr. of Waretown, NJ, formerly of Franklin Lakes, passed away on September 24, 2017 at the age of 91. Mr. Manz graduated from St. Luke's High School in 1944, where he was named Senior Class President. He was inducted into the United States Army in that year. Rudy served from 1944 - 1946, received three battle stars during active service in the Battle of the Bulge and rose to the rank of Sergeant.

After returning stateside, Rudy married the love of his life, Anna Litchult, with whom he he was happily married for over 65 years.

He worked for Lederle Labs for over 40 years as a set-up man. His true passion was with the Franklin Lakes Fire Department where he was a volunteer firefighter for 63 years. He served as Chief for seven years, and received many awards for his service and devotion, including Firefighter of the Year twice. 

He was a charter member and former president of the Franklin Lakes ambulance corps, a charter and life member of VFW Post 5702, and an honorary member of the New Jersey Search and Rescue unit.  Rudy was also a Past President and Life member of the NJ-NY Volunteer Firemen's Association and served on the Board of Trustees. He was a charter member of the Northwest Bergen Mutual Aid Association, serving as Treasurer, Vice-President and President. He was also an active member of the NJ Chief's Association for over forty years.

Rudy was made an Honorary Life Member of the Franklin Lakes Seniors Club for his dedication and devotion to the elderly of the Borough.

With his family, Rudy attended the first Mass for Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, and served as a Hospitality Minister for many years.

Upon his retirement, Rudy and Anna relocated to Waretown, where he helped his community maintain its monument. He spent his leisure time gardening and could always be spotted doing work outside on his and his neighbors homes for fun. 

Rudy is survived by his sister, Carol King, his children, Nancy Manz; Dorothy Anne Dworjan and her husband, Ihor; Rudolph M. Manz, Jr and his wife, Kim; Ruth Elwood and her husband, Brian. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His legacy will be remembered by many and he will be missed with a smile as he is welcomed home to heaven by his wife, Anna.
