Steven Frederick Joseph Hensle, 24, of Manahawkin, NJ and formerly of Forked River, NJ passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2017.
Steven, known as Steve to his friends, Stove to his MATES crew and Bigs by his parents, courageously battled a malignant brain tumor since December 2015. His motto “Strong, Powerful and Confident” were words of inspiration that carried him through his journey.
He was born in Secaucus, NJ, grew up in Forked River, NJ and for the past 7 years called Manahawkin home, but he lived with his cousin, Eddie, at “Fort Jimmie” in Galloway to complete his college degree in Computer Science and Informational Systems at Stockton University, which he completed while under active chemotherapy.
Steven loved life, his family, friends—especially his MATES, Kappa Sigma brothers, and TALONS—Lacey, and especially his fiancé, the love of his life, Caitlyn. His trademark hug will be missed by all.
Steven was a proud member of the Xi Rho chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Stockton, joining in fall 2014. He earned the role of Grand Master of Ceremonies during his time as an undergraduate. Steven enjoyed cooking and was famous for his egg flip; he was also a sports enthusiast and loved the Jets. As an avid runner, he became involved in the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults and planned on running across the country to raise awareness and funds for this cause, only to become the one they ran in honor of instead.
He was predeceased by his father, Frederick Joseph Hensle; grandparents, Doris R. Mack and Ernest Mack; and grandfather, Robert E. Malloy. Surviving are his mother, Lisa Hensle; his maternal grandmother, Ann J. Malloy; and fiancé, Caitlyn Pagkalinawan.
