Arthur Zieser Obituary

Arthur R. Zieser, Sr., 93, entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at home surrounded by his adoring family.  He has been reunited with his beloved wife Regina “Jean”, his parents August and Henrietta, and his brothers August, Joseph, Robert, and Walter, and his sisters Mildred “Millie” (Gibson), Lucille (Deglman) in the Heavenly Kingdom.  Born and raised in Newark, Arthur dedicated his life to service of others, first with the Army Air Corps during World War II, and then for 32 years with the Newark Fire Dept.  Arthur spent many of those years with Engine 8 (Ironbound) and Engine 21 (Vailsburg) until he retired in 1980.  Never one to sit still, in “retirement” Arthur moved to Bayville where he built a new home and continued working for the Central Regional Schools, Island Heights School, and the Berkley Sewage Authority as a custodian and other varying capacities for another 26 years, finally retiring in 2006.

Arthur was the patriarch of the expansive Zieser/Kelly Clan and together with Jean, the love of his life; he taught all he encountered to live their lives to the fullest and in service to others.  It was through his extraordinary love and leadership that the generations that follow strive to live up to the standards he set by personal example every day of his life.

Arthur is survived by his sons Arthur Jr. (Janet), Daniel (Antoinette), and Richard; grandchildren Tim (Jen), Scott (Alicia), Caitlyn (Brian) Lafera, Colleen, Kristin (Kevin) Ketcham, Daniel Jr. (Kelly), Michael (Kenzy), Nicole, Richard Jr., and Ryan; and 8 great grandchildren that continuously surrounded him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NJ Firemen’s Home in Boonton, NJ (www.njfh.org).
