Joaquim Henriques Obituary

Joaquim ‘Jack’ Henriques, age 85 of Bayville, New Jersey has gone to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Jack had experienced a stroke on Wednesday, December 26th  in which he was surrounded by family and friends up until the time of his passing.

Jack was born in Murtosa, Portugal on July 9, 1933. He had worked alongside his father, a boat builder, where he developed a strong passion for building boats; one in particular known as the Moliceiro which had been used for the harvesting of seaweed. In the year 1959, Jack married the love of his life and then immigrated to the country he adored with only a dream of success.  That same year they welcomed their first child.

Jack founded Henriques Yachts, Inc in 1977. A boat company specializing in manufacturing quality semi-custom sportfishing boats.  He was 44 years old at the time. Soon after, his two daughters and his son-in-law began to work with him side-by-side building up the Henriques name.  Today, Henriques Yachts is reputable for their strong and solid hull design known to endure any weather conditions out at sea. Later on, he acquired Lanoka Harbor Marina. A place he used to launch boats and furthered relationships with his boat owners. Jack was devoted to his business up until the day he passed continuing to take part in the day-to-day.

Jack loved history, geography and music. In his younger years he enjoyed making his own toys and was proud to play clarinet in the Pardilho band. In his younger years he enjoyed making his own toys and was proud to play in the Pardilho band. He enjoyed traveling and his adventurous spirit took him all over the world. Jack was known as hard-working, dedicated, tenacious, generous, warm-hearted and passionate.  A man with many stories of hardships and accomplishments, which had always inspired all of those around him to be better than they thought they could be. He lived life on his own terms with vivaciousness and encouraged others to do the same. Jack was adored and respected by all those who had the pleasure to meet him.

Jack was a loving husband survived by his wife, Conceicao “Maria” Henriques. A devoted father to his daughters, Maria Henriques-DeMers and Natalia Henriques-Costa along with their husbands, Gennaro DeMers and Manuel Costa. A wonderful grandfather to Angela Costa, Jaclyn Vagueiro and her husband John Vagueiro, Geannine DeMers and her fiancé Michael Hader, Michael Costa, Gennaro DeMers and Jack Costa. A beloved brother to his two sisters, Maria Alice DaSilva, Natalia Serra and her husband Mario Serra.  He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Jack and his legacy will live in our hearts forever.
