Bruce Beveridge Obituary

Bruce Frederick Beveridge, 77, passed away comfortably in his sleep on September 8, 2026, at Southern Ocean Medical Center. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on November 5, 1948, Bruce was the son of the late Frederick John Beveridge and Priscilla Joan Szasz. He was raised in Roselle, and for his final year, Bruce resided in Manahawkin, surrounded by his family.

Bruce dedicated 35 years of his professional life to IBM, where he worked as a software engineer. He took great pride in his work and in being a dependable provider. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was the life he built with his beloved wife, Joan. Bruce and Joan shared 51 years of marriage, creating a loving and comforting home together. They lived in Plainfield and Great Meadows, eventually making their way down to Forked River, where their waterfront home became Bruce’s true oasis. Although Bruce and Joan never had children of their own, their home was filled with love for their many pets and for their extended family.

Bruce had a sharp mind and a great sense of humor. His friends would describe him as sociable, intelligent, and very funny. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving uncle, and friend to all. His hobbies and talents included woodworking, birdwatching, fishing and boating, gardening, playing instruments like the harmonica and guitar, and carving and painting duck decoys. To speak more to his character, Bruce believed strongly in treating people with respect, kindness, and dignity and had little tolerance for anyone that didn’t align with him on that.

A true champion of the coast! Bruce was a devoted and enthusiastic volunteer with ReClam the Bay, joining the group when it was just beginning and becoming an important part of its growth into the highly respected volunteer organization it is today. From hosting RCTB tables at tons of events to teaching at the Tuckerton Seaport, Bruce committed countless hours to environmental education, conservation, and stewardship. He was awarded for his exceptional volunteer work and earned the admiration of his fellow members. Titles he held were Senior Education Consultant, Freelance Digital Creator, and Events Coordinator.

Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Beveridge; his parents, Frederick John Beveridge and Priscilla Joan Szasz; his sisters, Cynthia Beveridge Perlzack and Patricia Beveridge Quinones; as well as several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his nieces, Ashley Veith, Brittany Smith, Anita Hergert, Cynthia Quinones, Kimberley Sanchez, and Courtney DesRuisseau, and his nephews, Paul Smith and Ethan Neal. Along with other family, many friends, co-workers, and fellow volunteers whose lives he touched.

Rest peacefully, Bruce. May the waters be calm, the sunsets be beautiful, and the bay always remind us of you.
