Colleen Abramo (nee Helmer) passed away on Sunday morning, March 22nd after a long illness. Born in Texas, she moved to New Jersey as a young girl, married Alfred Abramo of Union City in 1954, and resided in Hudson County, with a two-year relocation to Colorado from 1967 to 1969. (Shout out to the Vail family!) In 1975 the family moved to Hopatcong, and, in 1994, relocated to her final address in Forked River.
In her younger years, Colleen was a homemaker, lovingly caring for her three children, and eventually worked as a pharmacist’s assistant for many years, until she retired upon relocation to Forked River. Her husband passed away in 2009.
A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of the Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River for 32 years.
In her later years she enjoyed watching TV, reading, spending time with her best friend, neighbor Robin Pawlowski, and solving crossword puzzles. She loved her country.
Colleen is survived by a sizable family: her loving sister Margie Kramer from Bayville, brother Harry Whitehouse and wife Janet from Washington, NJ, her three children, Lisa Pecora and Dean Abramo from Forked River, and son Guy, from Las Vegas, Lisa’s sister-in law Andrea Pecora, daughter-in laws Jackie Abramo of Forked River and Gail Abramo of Las Vegas, along with grandchildren Anthony, Theresa, and Nina; and many nieces and nephews of the Abramo, Carbone, Kramer and Whitehouse families.
She will be greatly missed.
