Eugene Joseph McTague, Jr.

Eugene Joseph (Gene) McTague, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023.   Gene was born in Orange, NJ on October 25, 1943 to parents, Eugene Joseph Sr. and Josephine (Osmola) McTague. Gene was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Prep  (1961). He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology (1966) and his JD degree from Seton Hall University Law School (1975).

Gene worked as a construction law attorney for Peckar & Abramson, P.C. until retirement.  He had also been employed with Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation, Ingersoll-Rand Company, and American Seating Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Prior to practicing law, he was a licensed Professional Engineer and held several industrial engineering positions.

Gene was a kind and generous man with a big heart and a twinkle in his Irish eyes.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who never missed a detail in taking care of his friends and family.   If you saw something you liked in his home, you’d have one arrive at your doorstep the next day.   He loved listening to music, reading, dinners with his family and friends, and computer technology.   Gene was extremely witty and could carry on a detailed conversation on just about every topic.  He was also handy enough to repair anything around the house, and he never showed up for a visit at his daughters’ homes without his toolbox “just in case”.  He was famous for his humorous one-liners, and his memory will live on through many of these. He was never seen without a smile on his face and was always ready to lend a hand (or an ear to listen).

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Christine (Mnich) McTague, and they had a wonderful life together.    They took many memorable trips together and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Hilton Head with their two loving and devoted daughters Erin McTague Clark and Eileen McTague Flynn (Matthew) and six beautiful grandchildren:  Eva, Claire, Liam, Ryann, Kaitlyn, and Kiera.
