Frances Mazzonna Obituary

Life was Frances E. Mazzonna’s stage and she took her final bow on June 20, 2021, passing away peacefully in the comfort of her home. Born in New York City in Aug 1939, Frances entertained all who came in contact with her for 81 laughter and love filled years.

Frances spent her early childhood in Queens, New York.  Her fondest memories are of the time she lived in Memphis with her family she loved and adored.  Frances was happiest when she was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and of course the love of her life, her puppy Winston.

Frances, AKA Fran, Mom, Granny Franny, Giggy and “Mother Superior” was loved for her crazy personality and great sense of humor.

Fran had the gift of laughter and love and touched so many lives. In addition to raising her own 3 children she was also a foster mom to many young children.  Her home in Silverton was the place where all of the kids in the neighborhood could go for comfort and fun and she had an incredible gift to make everyone feel special, as she served as a 2nd mom to many.

Frances was the “family historian”, and was able to connect many family members from all across the world – including Italy, Malta, Australia, and of course across the US. She absolutely loved learning about her family history and getting to know and connect with distant relatives. She was incredibly proud of her heritage, and especially loved to pass on what she learned to her family.

As an extremely tenacious and hard worker, Fran was always striving to create the best life for herself and for her children. She first began working at Silverton Marina as a secretary. After moving down south, she then broke into the auto industry with Toyota and quickly rose up to the role of the regional manager in North Carolina. Frances was very proud of her time working at the Lakehurst Naval Base in support of our United States Navy.  It was in this role that she was lovingly nicknamed “Mother Superior” by her co-workers at the Prototype, Manufacturing and Test Department (PMD) here at Lakehurst, NJ and the Voyage Repair Team (VRT) down in Norfolk, VA.  When it came to getting work done, Fran was all business. But you could always count on Fran to do something funny or kooky that would break up the stress and put a smile on everyone’s face. She loved her PMD and VRT co-workers dearly.

Fran’s zest for life will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. The most important thing she wanted everyone to remember was “ALWAYS KEEP YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR”.  She will be greatly missed by her family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Frances is survived by her brother Charles Cohen, her three children, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
