Irene Ehrenfeld

Irene Gotsch Ehrenfeld went home to be with the Lord on August 13, 2026. She was born on April 9, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood and enrolled in various art courses at Kean University. To know Irene is to be reminded of the beauty in nature which she shared through her art and embroidery. Irene was married to Charles Fuhrmesiter, who passed away in 2002. 

In 2005 Irene married Paul Ehrenfeld and the two became travel partners. They both had the opportunity to travel to Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Italy, Spain, and Gibraltar.  Numerous Christmases were celebrated in Germany and Austria with family. California and Nevada were favorite states to visit in the United States. 

Irene worked at Kessler Rehabilitation in West Orange. While there, she had the opportunity to meet Christopher Reeve, known for his roles in the Superman movies.  Broadway actor Ben Vereen, once a patient there too, gave her a kiss! 

Irene was an active member of Village Lutheran Church in Lanoka Harbor. She was a former member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Springfield. Her embroidery talent was showcased in many ecumenical items for her church. 

Irene will be missed by her loving family and friends. She was the daughter of the late 
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gotsch, and sister of the late Charles Jr. and Henry Gotsch. 
She is survived by her husband Paul, her children Christine (Larry) and Steven, and her stepchildren Andrew (Marissa) and Megan (Liam). Irene was blessed with many loving grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her loving friends Carol Attianese and Elizabeth O'Neil. 
 
A memorial service will be held at Village Lutheran Church, 701 Western Blvd.,  
Lanoka Harbor on September 5th at 11:00AM.
