JEFFREY WILLIAM HEIN, 71, of Forked River, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Community Medical Center. He was born on October 9th, 1949 at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.
Jeffrey was a proud United States Veteran and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, he worked for over 30 years for the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, with the final 26 years as a Sheriff 's Officer. He was promoted several times and retired in 2011 after achieving the rank of Captain.
Concurrently he proudly served as the President of F.O.P. Lodge #10 in Toms River. For 25 years he oversaw the purchase and rehabilitation of a building for the lodge. For his hard work and dedication, the main hall at the lodge will forever be known as Hein Hall.
Jeffrey also enjoyed serving his community and was an active member of the Lacey ELKS Lodge #2518 for over 16 years. While a member, he devoted himself to it's many charitable endeavors and served with distinction, being named ELK of the Year in 2011 amongst a number of other awards. While an Elk, he held a number of positions, but he was most proud of his work as the Captain of the Lodge's Honor Guard and as the Southeast District Chairman of Public Relations.
But most of all, Jeffrey loved his family. He married Rosemary McHugh in 1982 settling in Forked River. They were blessed with two sons, Jeffrey Jr. in 1983 and Michael in 1987.
Jeffrey delighted in attending his sons' various school and sport functions and sharing with them his love of science fiction. He took great pride in their science fair projects and was always available to help whenever needed. But most importantly, he created a safe space for his family in which they could grow and thrive, and for that they will be forever grateful to him.
Jeffrey was predeceased by his parents, John Hein and Flora Contreras and his sister, Santa Contreras. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, his son Jeffrey Jr. and his wife Heather, his son Michael, his grandchildren, Jason Jeffrey and Penelope Rose, his siblings, John Hein, Robert Contreras, Flora Bierilo, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
