Joseph Jay Maggelet “Maggs” of Manasquan, was born September 21,1976. He had a talent and passion for the culinary arts that was extraordinary. He had a love for life and was determined to reach any goal he set his mind to. Joe was a bodybuilder in his early twenties and won many local competitions. Joe loved animals, especially his doggies--Tyson, Bluto, and Ava. He loved the beach and admired nature. Joe grew up in Waretown, where he loved playing baseball, basketball, and football. He graduated from Southern Regional High School and then from Atlantic County Culinary Arts Institute. He was Chef at Sea Oaks, Captain's Inn, Executive Chef at the Meadowlands, and many others, but his home was Blend on Main in Manasquan owned by his “other brother” and Chef, J.R. Lou Smith. Joe was smart, creative, quick-witted, playful, and full of love. Joe passed peacefully at OMC on December 20, 2021.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, Pamela and Joseph Maggelet, He is survived by his brother, Raymond Maggelet/ Kara Villinger and sister, Mary Jane Zarn/ John Diehl. Nieces and nephews: Rachel Rikeman/Charlie Michalek, Layna, and Sage; Liam,Talon, Orion, Luna, Lana and Savannah Maggelet; Aunt Diana Reid, cousins Debby, Danielle, Bobby, Lindsay, Angel, Kim and Bobby; Tracy (his other “big sister”), Mike, Kevin, Jay, Derek, Tara, Joelle, and Lindsay are amongst the many of us who will miss him so dearly.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 27, from 5-9 pm at Layton's Home For Funerals, 250 Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ 08731. In lieu of flowers, please donate at ChefLousArmy.Org to help feed essential workers and those in need.
