Lorraine M. Van Mater

Lorraine M. Van Mater, lovingly known as “Rainy,” passed away on April 1, 2026, at the age of 70, after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer.

Born on January 2, 1956, in Kearny, New Jersey, Lorraine spent much of her life in Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, where she built a life centered on love, family, and lasting friendships.

Rainy was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Brian Van Mater, with whom she shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughter, Rachel, and a cherished mother-in-law to Rachel’s husband, Kyle Rauth. Being a full-time mother was one of the roles she held closest to her heart, and she found her greatest joy in caring for her family and creating memories that will be treasured forever. She also adored her granddog, Zoey, who brought her endless happiness.

She is also survived by her loving siblings: her brother James and his wife, Julie; her sister Eileen and her late husband, Jerry; her brother Thomas and his wife, Sheri; and her brother Charles and his wife, Denise. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Rainy will be remembered for her warmth, her deep love of family, and the laughter and companionship she shared so freely. Her presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at Layton’s Home for Funerals in Forked River, New Jersey.
