Mildred J. "MiMi'" Schmidling

Mildred J. "Mimi" Schmidling, 86, of Forked River, New Jersey, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on August 24, 2026. Born Mildred Koenig in Newark, New Jersey, she was the beloved daughter of John and Mildred Koenig. In 1973, Mimi moved to the Jersey Shore and eventually settled in Lacey Township in 1993. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mimi loved big. She had a generous spirit and a true servant's heart, always finding ways to care for the people around her. Family was at the center of her world, and the love she gave so freely will live on through the many lives she touched.

Mimi was the beloved wife of the late James J. Schmidling. She is survived by her children, Anthony "T.J." Larangeira and his wife, Jacqueline, and Laurie Larangeira-McGann and her partner, Lee Brown; Stepdaughter, Donna Perini and her husband, Mike; her grandchildren, Anthony, Thomas, Justin, Kyle, and Brielle; and her great-grandchildren, Joey and Jack. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew. She is also survived by her sister, Adrienne DiMicco, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Mimi found joy in the simple things and in making memories with the people she loved. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with friends, traveling to Amish Country, attending BlueClaws minor league baseball games, and cheering on her beloved Philadelphia Eagles. She was especially well known for her Eagles jacket and hat—an unmistakable part of Mimi wherever she went.

She was deeply involved in her community and was a member of the Italian-American Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, the Sunrise Beach Club, and the Republican Club. Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life, and she was a faithful member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Forked River.

Those who knew Mimi will remember her enormous heart, her devotion to her family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of others. She had a particular love for Christmas and delighted in decorating her home with an abundance of Christmas decorations. She also had a special fondness for bears, which became another beloved part of her world.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2026, at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Lacey Road, Forked River, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mimi's memory may be made to Holisticare Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association – Greater New Jersey Chapter.
