Modestino "Sonny" Detore

Modestino “Sonny” Detore passed away peacefully October 1, 2026, he was 97 years old. Born in Orange, NJ, on April 21, 1929, Sonny was the son of Daniel and Olympia Detore. He went on to marry the love of his life, Florence, and together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Sonny dedicated 30 years of his life to the Orange Postal Service. He later went into business with his two sons, Daniel and Anthony, as the proud owners of Manchester Gardens.

Sonny was a devoted, loving, strong, and truly indestructible man. He loved his family fiercely, especially his boys, Daniel (Donna) and Anthony. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by the people he loved.

His grandchildren, Cheryl (Gregg), Jessica (Mark), Dana (James), Anthony (Stephanie), Daniel, and Angela (Kevin), brought him immense joy and filled his heart with pride. His great-grandchildren, Lena, Gabriel, Morgan, Amber, Gage, Grace, Gia, Madelynn, and Ava, were especially precious to him and gave him countless moments of happiness.

Sonny enjoyed spending time in Atlantic City, going to the gym, golfing, and going to OTB.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence, and his daughter-in-law, Phyllis.

Sonny will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. The legacy he was so proud of will live on through his family, and the love he gave so freely will remain in their hearts forever.
