Roy Belliveau Obituary

Roy Nelson Belliveau, 96, passed peacefully in his sleep on September 24, 2026, at Spring Oak Assisted Living in Lanoka Harbor, NJ. Born in Irvington, NJ, on June 8, 1930, Roy was the son of the late William and Mabel Belliveau.

Perhaps Roy’s greatest accomplishment was the life he built with his beloved wife, Carol, who predeceased him in 2013. Roy and Carol lived in Green Brook, NJ. They shared 57 years of marriage. Together they raised three daughters, Elaine Falcon, Susan Schirmer, and Laurie Brunot, and built a family that would become one of Roy’s greatest sources of joy.

For the last six years, Roy lived in the home of his daughter Susan and son-in-law Joseph Schirmer before moving to Spring Oak Assisted Living for a short stay. Roy was always surrounded by family and was adored by his children, grandchildren, and especially his four great-grandchildren. During his brief time at Spring Oak, he made many friends among the staff and shared his faith in the Lord with them.

Roy lived a remarkable life defined by family, faith, teaching, athletics, humor, an extraordinary memory. He was one of six brothers—Kenneth, William, Donald, Robert, and Fred. From an early age, athletics became an important part of Roy’s life. He was a standout athlete at Seton Hall University in basketball and track. Roy still holds the record for the longest ever javelin throw at Seton Hall – 210’, 9 ½” and in 1952, the New York Knicks selected Roy in the NBA Draft and offered him a professional basketball contract. Roy instead chose a career in teaching. He taught special education and eventually served as a school principal.

Roy possessed an almost uncanny memory. He could recall details of his life with remarkable accuracy—teachers’ names, places he had traveled, events from decades earlier, and countless passages of Scripture. He seemed to remember almost everything.

Roy enjoyed talking about his life, his family, athletics, scripture and most importantly, his faith in Jesus Christ. Roy leaves behind a family filled with memories of his accomplishments, his stories, his humor, his wisdom, his faith, and his love.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel Belliveau; his beloved wife, Carol; his daughter, Laurie Brunot; and his brothers, William, Donald, Robert, and Fred.

Rest peacefully, Roy. You are finally where you wanted to be—in Heaven with your Lord Jesus!
